How “free” Is “Planting Trees For Free?”
On one hand, you may have heard that “there is no such thing as a free lunch.” On the other, we say that you can plant trees for free, without effort on your part. It’s not unfair to wonder how free these free trees really are.
They are free… at the same time they aren’t. A “free” tree costs money to plant and maintain. In that sense it is not free. But that cost isn’t incurred by you, but rather by others. You may be buying a good or service, or interacting with them in a way they consider valuable, like engaging with their media.
By now you probably understand that planting trees for free stems partly from a desire to help the environment and partly from a marketing strategy. But it’s marketing with a green conscience, and who doesn’t want that?
