Have you ever thought about joining the weird and wonderful world of collecting and trading? You can collect and trade anything. Trust us when we say there’s always a demand, no matter what you’ve been collecting over the years. You might have been saving every newspaper for ten years. You might not think they’re worth anything, but they will be for someone. A journalist is always on the lookout for a newspaper from a date in time that was a point of interest. For instance the 2008 banking crisis or even 9/11. Papers that were published during this time are actually now quite rare and valuable. That’s just one example of course. It still leaves the question of how you can make money through collecting.
Choose Something To Collect
Your first step is to choose what you want to start collecting and check out value before you begin. Pokemon cards might have been worth collecting once upon a time. But the same is not true now. That doesn’t mean you should throw away any cards you’ve collected over the years. Stockpile them in case they become popular again. If they do, you’ll already be in a position to make a lot of money from your collection. Beanie babies are another example of collector's items that have recently lost their value. One collection that is currently incredibly valuable right now is the trade of banknotes. Paper money collectors will, ironically, pay a fortune for rare notes that you might be in possession of. This is why you should never disregard or throw away seemingly useless leftover currency from a holiday. You might be surprised just how much it’s worth to the right individual.
Find Your Market
You’ll find that most collection markets are now online. Although, you’ll still get the rare exhibition or event where you can sell your items. Comic Book collectors, for instance often make a fortune selling rare comics that they have collected, during comic con. For the most part, though, you’ll be listing and selling on eBay. Or, using specific specialized sites to sell and trade items. To do this, you need to make sure you are seen as a trusted collector. eBay actually has strict rules about selling collector's items. Ideally, you want to be registered as an official collector. That way, you will get a lot of people interested in buying your items.
Pick A Price
Next, you need to think about how much you want to sell your items for. You can put them up for auction, but it might be better to choose a fixed price. During an auction, you could lose a lot of money if a buyer is lucky and gets a day where no one is bidding. They could pick up a rare item at significantly less than what it’s worth. That’s why you need to be careful pricing what you sell. Don’t fall into the trap of giving away your collections for nothing.
You might already have a collection of items that are valuable in your attic. If you're dismissive of seemingly useless items and junk being valuable, just remember this. Pokemon Go accounts sold for thousands on eBay. Just let that sink in for a moment. People paid a fortune for an account on a game for a collection of virtual reality monsters. Now, are you really so sure those paper clippings you have hold no value? We didn’t think so.
